In the midst of 2009 economic turmoil, the promise of new and alternative energy sources beckons. Developed and developing nations each bring specific “current-state” problems, and face unique challenges and opportunities related to building and deploying these new energy, building, power-plant/ vehicle, and systems technologies to reduce our carbon footprint, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and conserve energy and critical raw materials.
As these exciting developments occur – as societies, we are faced with “transition challenges”, since our current global economy remains predominantly fossil-fuel-based (petroleum, coal, and natural-gas). Distribution and supply networks, market mechanisms, maintenance and repair capabilities, human-operator and -manager skill and knowledge, and other critical dimensions remain oriented to supporting this fossil-fuel-powered system.
We know that key, seismic changes as well as “tipping point” moments are coming soon in power generation, transmission and consumption – and that these “change moments” are coming related to buildings where we live and work, go to school, conduct our public and governmental business, and are coming as well in how we transport goods and people, as well as how we power machines and systems.
Our joint team - Team Carbon – has come together to help client organizations and governmental bodies to think through scenarios, address key strategies, take first steps to reduce energy “spend and burn”, lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduce their environmental footprint, and position their organizations and people in preparation for this coming future.
